Last week we were informed of the death of our President Bob Heywood after a long illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bob was largely responsible for the rise of Junior rowing in Chester-le-Street between the late 80’s and the early part of this century, coaching and mentoring many young people in a sport that was very much in the minority at the time. He was instrumental in the rebuilding of the rowing club we have today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was a wonderful man, full of integrity and character, with a keen eye for talent and a passion for helping young people. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The club ethos that he instilled in its members was “You don’t row at the club, you row for<\/strong> the club”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends at this sad time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bob’s family have asked us to inform the rowing community of the funeral arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bob’s funeral will take place on Friday 1st<\/sup> September 2023 at 11.00am, at St Cuthbert’s R.C Church Ropery Lane. A cremation is taking place at Birtley Crematorium and afterwards a celebration of his life at Chester le Street Town Cricket Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the way from his family home in Lumley to the church Bob’s family have asked the funeral directors to make a brief detour to the club in recognition of his involvement over the years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Club members can get more information by checking Spond.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Last week we were informed of the death of our President Bob Heywood after a long illness.
