Head coach weekly update

Dear all,

The Hermitage session will be on as usual tonight with a water session for trialists and JIRR crews. Next week, there will be a list of crews that the coaches will submit for entry at the British Championships in July.

A huge well done to some past and present members of CLS who competed at the National Team trials last weekend. Will Fletcher, who started his rowing career as a junior at CLS, won the men’s lightweight trial and Lauren Irwin won the C final and is currently seat racing for the chance to represent GB at the under 23 World Championships. Both are planning to visit the club over the summer, so watch this space.

The weekend coming looks to be a pivotal one for the club’s junior contingent as we have our biggest representation of athletes racing in Nottingham on Saturday (CLS make up over half of the regional team and have the biggest representation of any club in the country). All of the juniors have been training well and even from the sessions over the weekend and the odd race thrown in, the athletes from j12 girls up look to be making huge improvements. We hope for medals but expect committed performances from everyone. Attached is a timetable of the running order of the day.

The following day sees Bobbi Forster, Eve Larsen and Dan Middleton compete for the chance to represent GB. The GB system and selection process has changed this year so that crews are chosen earlier. Put simply, if they finish in the top 16 out of 22 and 32 respectively, they will then represent GB or England at some stage. We are immensely proud of all of them as we are every single athlete no matter what age who represents the club at a race or makes any sort of improvement in training, good luck to all of them.

Our home regatta is a week on Sunday (30 April) and everyone at the club is preparing for the first event on the Northern calendar and if anyone wishes to offer their help, please email Brian Webb, CC’d above.

Many thanks
Steven
