Dear all,
the Hermitage session tonight will happen as normal.
Last weekend was a momentous two days for the club. I would go as far as to say historic. The club managed to compete at two of the most important events on the junior British Rowing calendar and come away with two medals and two potential international athletes. The Junior Inter-Regional Regatta took place on Saturday in Nottingham and pitted the best athletes in the country from 21 regions against each other. The club had a regional highest of 5 crews representing the North. Bobbi Foster and Anna Wilson combined in the J16 doubles to miss out on a medal by half a length in the A Final, Max Wilson in MJ14 1X finished 3rd in the B final, Mark Shaw and Thomas Dowson finished 6th in the A final with an impressive first race behind them, Eve Larsen outlined why many coaches at the GB trials on Sunday described her as a future GB international winning a Gold in wj16 single by 2 clear lengths and Last years champion and current British Champion achieved a silver in a hotly contested mj15 single.
The following day, Eve Larson finished 20th in the women’s junior single Great Britain trials out of 35, considering she is only 15 Years old and racing girls who are 18th is quite impressive. Then Lauren Irwin was ranked 2nd fastest in the time trial in women’s junior pairs then went fastest in the semi final overall, finishing 4th in the A final with a certain invite to the final trials in July.
As a member of a very committed coaching team, I have witnessed some special performances this season but collectively, on a national and domestic front, we punch well above our weight and on one hand, it isn’t actually a surprise to me as I see every day what work we do both on and off the water as a club. Many coaches of some top schools and southern clubs who have huge reputations and budgets were commenting on how well the club has done; all we need to do is maintain this effort and we will prove to be the most successful club in the North and the top 10 in the country. One statistic to leave you with, 17 national medals in 12 calendar months.
Thanks
Steven
